Frequancy of thyroid disordersamong patients in ATBARA and ELDAMER teaching hospitals in Jan 2024_ Jan 2025
(جامعة الشيخ عبدالله البدري, 2025) Amna Abdelraheem Omer Mohammed Ahmed; Drocella Alshaib Fanous Hizgial; Rahma Mohamed Elmubarak AbdElgadir; Saeed Abdullah Abdulrahman Abdullah Babgi
Abstract: Background: Thyroid diseases represent a significant worldwide public health problem, primarily occurring in women and often being linked to iodine deficiency. In Sudan, while prevalence has been reported, few up-to-date localized epidemiological data exist, particularly from Northern regions like Atbara. This paucity of data hinders effective health planning and improved patient outcomes. Objective: The aim of this study was to assess the prevalence and types of thyroid diseases among patients attending the Medicine and Surgery Departments of Atbara Teaching Hospital and Aldamar Teaching Hospital between January 2024 and January 2025. Methodology: A descriptive cross-sectional hospital-based study was conducted at Atbara Teaching Hospital and Aldamar Teaching Hospital. Convenience sample of 103 adult patients (male and female and across age) with a laboratory and/or clinical diagnosis established thyroid disease was drawn from surgical and internal medicine wards. Patient records and questionnaire were utilized to capture data on type of thyroid disorder, medications at the time of present, demographics, clinical presentation, history of surgery, and thyroid function tests (TSH, T3, T4). Statistical procedures were conducted using SPSS. Results: The cohort consisted of 103 participants, of whom the majority were female (61%) with a median age of 35 years (interquartile range: 27-48 years) and residing predominantly in urban locations (53%). The most common thyroid illnesses diagnosed were Goiter (25%), Hypothyroidism (24%), and Hyperthyroidism (17%). A majority of patients (59%) had a history of thyroid surgery, and 30% were on thyroid medications. The most frequently found symptom was neck swelling (46.6%), followed by tachycardia (28.2%) and general fatigue (21.4%). Thyroid function tests in patients with known test results showed diverse abnormalities: 15.5% with elevated TSH, 8.7% with extremely low TSH, 10.7% with elevated T3, and 10.7% with elevated T4, collectively indicating a high prevalence of thyroid dysfunction. Conclusion: Thyroid disorders are a significant health problem among patients within Atbara Teaching Hospital and Aldamar Teaching Hospital, predominantly in young to middle-aged women. The findings of high incidence of goiter, hypothyroidism, and V hyperthyroidism, coupled with the high rates of surgical history and present medication, indicate an emergent need for better awareness, early screening, improved diagnostic facilities, and simplified management strategies in order to improve thyroid outcome in this region. Prevalence and Control of Hypertension Among Patients on Hemodialysis in Aldammer Teaching Hospital 2025
(جامعة الشيخ عبدالله البدري, 2025-09) Mohamedalmagzoub Abdalmajed Abdawahid Abdalmaged; Mohammed Ahmed Hamid Ahmed; Abdalgader Khalid Abdalgader Hassan; Abazer Omer Dafalla Ali
Abstract: Background: Hypertension is one of the most common and serious comorbidities among patients undergoing hemodialysis. It plays a significant role in increasing cardiovascular disease incidence and mortality. Objective: To assess the prevalence and control of hypertension and the factors affecting its control among hemodialysis patients at Aldammer Teaching Hospital 2025. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted among 136 patients undergoing hemodialysis. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire and review of patient records. Results: The study found that 75.7% of the patients were hypertensive. Contributing factors included a history of hypertension, presence of comorbidities, poor adherence to medication, and non-compliance with dietary recommendations. Conclusion: Hypertension is highly prevalent among hemodialysis patients. There is a need to enhance patient education, improve treatment and dietary adherence, and strengthen follow-up protocols at the hospital.

Assessment of Satisfaction of Final Year Medical Students about Clinical Training at Elsheikh Abdallah Elbadri University
(جامعة الشيخ عبدالله البدري, 2025) Marwa Abd Algader Mohammed; Zahraa Ahmed Saad Ahmed; Duha Ibrahim Ahmed Adam
ABSTRACT Background: Clinical training is a critical component of medical education, enabling students to acquire essential knowledge, skills, and professional attitudes. Student satisfaction with clinical training reflects the quality of teaching and is an important indicator for curriculum improvement. Objective: To assess the satisfaction of final-year medical students with their clinical training at Elsheikh Abdullah Elbadri University. Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted in 2025 among all 113 final-year medical students at Elsheikh Abdullah Elbadri University .Data were collected using a structured self-administered questionnaire covering socio-demographic characteristics, satisfaction with teaching activities ,clinical skills, confidence in managing conditions, and hospital exposure. Data were analyzed using SPSS version 25 with descriptive statistics and ANOVA for mean score comparisons . Results: The mean age of participants was 24.7 ± 1.2 years, with 55.8% females. Most students were moderately satisfied with teaching activities such as theoretical sessions and case discussions across all specialties. Surgery achieved the highest satisfaction score (mean = 60.3), while Pediatrics (55.8), internal medicine (56.3) and Obstetrics & Gynecology (56.6) had lower ratings, especially in exposure to emergency and operative cases. Students reported higher confidence in managing common conditions but less confidence in handling critical emergencies such as stroke, neonatal resuscitation, and obstetric hemorrhage. Numerical score analysis revealed an overall bad satisfaction .ANOVA showed no statistically significant differences in satisfaction scores between specialties (p > 0.05 ( . Conclusion: Final-year medical students were moderately satisfied with their clinical training by categorized data analysis; but numerical score analysis revealed an overall bad satisfaction. Strengths were found in theoretical teaching and exposure to common conditions. However, significant gaps remain in supervision, structured feedback, and emergency case exposure, particularly in Pediatrics and Obstetrics & Gynecology . IV Recommendations: Enhancing clinical supervision, establishing structured feedback systems, expanding simulation-based training, and ensuring adequate exposure to emergencies and operative procedures are necessary to improve the quality of clinical training.
