Abstract
Abstract :-
High-Strength Concrete (HSC) represents a fundamental pillar in the development of
modern engineering structures that require superior structural efficiency. This research
aims to investigate the production of HSC using locally available resources, focusing on
the role of advanced chemical admixtures and the integration of industrial waste to
achieve engineering sustainability. The research problem lies in the limited adoption of
HSC in local projects despite the availability of high-quality aggregates, due to a lack of
studies on optimal mix designs and additive combinations.
The research methodology followed a laboratory-analytical approach, where
experimental mixes (M0 to M7) were modeled and designed to achieve a target
compressive strength of 45 N/mm2. The study utilized two types of superplasticizers:
PMM PLAST SP50 and Adicrete B2, while reducing the water-to-cement (W/C) ratio to
minimum levels of (0.33). Furthermore, a hybrid mix was developed by adding iron filings
at a rate of 10% as a mechanical reinforcement to consolidate the cement matrix and
reduce porosity.
The experimental results at 28 days showed exceptional success, as the actual
achieved strength significantly exceeded the initial design target. The M7 mix (based on
Adicrete B2) recorded the highest compressive strength in the research, reaching
47.33N/mm2, followed by the M5 mix, where iron filings demonstrated high efficiency in
increasing strength to 42.22 N/mm2 The study confirmed a strong inverse relationship
between the water ratio and load-bearing capacity, as superplasticizers helped transform
the cementitious structure from a porous material into a high-density solid mass
without affecting workability (Slump).
The research concludes that the use of advanced chemical admixtures and the recycling
of iron filings not only improves the mechanical properties of concrete but also
contributes to producing environmentally friendly and economical concrete by reducing
the dimensions of structural sections. Based on these findings, the researchers
recommend adopting the use of superplasticizers in local construction projects and
expanding studies on the effect of iron filings on the long-term durability of structures
against harsh environmental condition
